How This Sloomoo Exec Is Embracing Her Power

Behind the Scenes with Marie Kelly

Sloomoo Institute's Marie Kelly talks about being open to opportunities, opening up the talent pipeline and our inner critic.

I've had the opportunity to connect with and learn from executives of major brands at MediaPost's Insider Summits. In the process I've discovered some truly impressive women -- not only for the work they do, but their stories behind the scenes. With Brand Insider: BTS, I get to pull back the curtain on some of the most influential women marketers as they talk about their path to success: the twists and turns, obstacles, inspirations and the valuable lessons learned along the way.

“They give some stats about women, people of color, diversity segments often self-selecting out of the candidacy pool, and it was such a great example in the industry of what good can look like.” That example was a disclaimer in a job posting from the Whitney Museum encouraging people to submit even if they didn't feel that they fulfilled all the requirements. Marie Kelly, Sloomoo Institute's head of marketing & strategic partnerships, believes it’s that kind of motivation that will help “open the door for others to feel that they have the permission to kind of raise their hand to come forward.” In this episode of Brand Insider: BTS, Marie also talks with me about the power of advertising, why she believes nothing in the industry is truly done independently and a new tradition she’s embraced in honor of her grandmother. You can watch the entire conversation here:
